Affiliate Newbie

Several weeks ago I began a quest to find another source of income. I received numerous emails from people or companies. I received one such email that stated I could work a couple hours a day and earn thousands posting on Google. I read the fine print at the bottom and it said that this program is not part of Google. There seems to be a discrepancy between the ad and the fine print.

I received another email opportunity about eBay. The ad is very persuasive, however what the ad doesn’t say is who is paying the fees that both eBay and paypal will charge? They also do not inform the receiver that Ebay is now required to report your eBay activity to the IRS. Not that anyone on eBay is planning not to report actual earnings. This option seemed a little shady and I felt that the $ 15.00 per post wouldn’t be enough to cover the costs imposed by eBay, Paypal and the IRS.

So, I continued my search and found an article or blog that talked about being an affiliate.

I understood it to say that I could work from my home (eventually) and post banners to sell what the company has to offer. I read the promotional stuff and thought, hummmm… I can do that. So I created my first link and placed it on my blog. I was so excited, the next day I checked my affiliate site and nothing.

Not being discouraged I did some checking and found that your site needs traffic. I thought duh… that makes perfect sense. So, I went on a hunt to find a way to measure traffic. I found a site, put in my blog address and viola! Zero… hehehe.. Nada.

Ok. I am really green. I am so much a “Newbie” that I never learned certain principals and I will share what I have learned so far.

1.

Patience. You have to have a blog or site that has a lot of traffic before anyone will make a purchase on your site.

2. Content comes before traffic. If you do not have anything of interest you will not have traffic.

3. Patience. If you have content that draws traffic you will have people who will be looking at your banners for the affiliate sites.

Personally, I am working on step #2. I hope to improve my content so that the traffic level will rise. You can spend money using AdWords to drive traffic to your site, but I would like to start having traffic free first.
